The community lost an important piece of colorful local history July 16, 1999, when Henry “Heini” Janousek, 93, died. He was well-known throughout the area for his 21-stool lunch counter on Main Street where hamburgers were king. He and his brother, Paul, opened the first Janousek Cafe in 1935. The building was 10 feet by 20 feet and they had five stools. On Valentine’s Day 1939, the shop burned down. In 1940, they built a new building at 31 Main St. N. (present site of Let It Grow) and reopened. In 1949, they added the upper story to the building and in 1953, they remodeled the shop. HUTCHINSON LEADER ARCHIVES
