Friday was my first Chad Greenway football camp. I was expecting to see a lot of area boys working out at various places on the football/soccer fields. Then I saw a bus load of kids of various ages come off a bus from North Minneapolis. It piqued my interest.

Hundreds gathered Friday night for the first Stroll for Hope at Masonic/West River Park in Hutchinson. Formerly known as the Relay for Life of McLeod County, the annual event honors cancer survivors and remembers those who died from the disease.

Orvis N. Baumgardt, 87, of Hutchinson passed away on Friday, August 2, 2024, at Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson. Funeral Service was held Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Hutchinson with interment in Oakland Cemetery in Hutchinson. He was the son of Edward and Feola (Leske) Baumgardt. Orvis was baptized as an infant on June 27, 1937, and later confirmed in his faith as a youth on April 29, 1951, both at Zion Lutheran Church in Buffalo Lake. He received his education in Buffalo Lake and was a graduate of the Buffalo Lake High School class of 1955. On August 9, 1974, Orvis was united in marriage to Dorothy Wendorff at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Acoma Township. Orvis and Dorothy resided in Buffalo Lake, and later moved to Hutchinson. They shared almost 50 years of marriage. Orvis farmed in rural Buffalo Lake. He was also a truck driver for McCormick Implement of Stewart for 26 years. He retired in 1995. Orvis was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Hutchinson. He was an usher and Sunday School Superintendent in Buffalo Lake. Orvis enjoyed playing the concertina, dancing, jigsaw puzzles, deer hunting, and going on bus tours. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren and friends. Blessed be his memory.
