CLAY COUNTY — The American Red Cross states there is a continuing critical need for blood products to ensure patient care.Type O blood donors and those giving platelets are especially needed. In Clay County, there are seven blood drives through the end of September where donations can be made.

LIBERTY — No new details regarding possible charges were released Monday, Sept, 9 in the court case involving the burglary of Adventure Outdoors, the downtown Liberty gun dealer. One juvenile suspect, who has not been publicly identified by the legal system because he is a minor, was back in court Monday after first appearing in Clay County Circuit Court this summer. The case was continued to Oct. 7 as the defendant’s attorney is preparing for another client’s trial.
LIBERTY — The 12-member Downtown Task Force’s ideas for how downtown Liberty could be improved was presented Monday, Sept. 9, at the Liberty City Council meeting. Suggestions include creating mixed-use areas and parking garages. For their ideas, the task force visited metropolitan cities such as Lee’s Summit to look at downtown areas.
LIBERTY — Historic Downtown Liberty Inc. will mark 20 years in 2025. In preparation for the anniversary, the board and team leaders have been working for a year to look at a refresh to the brand, said Danelle O’Connell, HDLI executive director.
CLAY COUNTY — The trial for Andrew Lester, the elderly man charged in the shooting of an unarmed teen who came to his house by mistake in 2023, will not take place next month as originally planned. A judge this week ordered a mental health examination of Lester, delaying the case.
KEARNEY — An 18-yearold Riverside man faces a felony charge after Kearney police investigated occupied residences that were shot into. Officers were initially dispatched to the 1200 block of Geneva Circle on Sept. 2 for property damage. Once on scene, investigators determined two occupied residences were shot into multiples times.
CLAY COUNTY — Joshua T. Rocha, the Kansas City man charged with murdering North Kansas City police officer Daniel Vasquez, also faces five felony charges of possession of child porn after being indicted by a grand jury.
