Arlene E. Beneke, 90, of Hutchinson passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at Ecumen Pines in Hutchinson. JERALD E SWANSON (JERRY)

Jerry was born on November 13, 1950. He was the youngest of 11 children. Jerry was an avid cook and loved being in a kitchen. He got that passion starting with dish washing at Swanson’s Truck Stop Hwy 7, eventually working up to cooking. Later, Jerry helped run a truck stop in Grand Junction, Colo. His passion shifted to driving over-the-road 18 wheelers for over 30 years. Jerald “Jerry” E. Swanson, 73, passed away on Monday, April 1, 2024, in Arizona. Jerry is survived by siblings: Nancy Koelln, Margaret (Myron) Janke, Thom (Cloe) Swanson, Jeanette (James Brown) Johnson, Vicki Buschmann, Philip (Susan) Swanson, and V. LeRoy (Teresa Finn) Swanson; many cousins, nieces, nephews. Jerry is preceded in death by his mother, Phronsie; father, Victor; siblings: Ardythe (James) Ryan, Vincent James (Ann) Swanson, Allen Swanson; brothers-inlaw, Gerald Koelln and William Buschmann. Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2024, from 2 to 4 p.m. at 216 N. Davis Ave. Litchfield, MN 55355.

Mavis M. McPheeters, 93, of Hutchinson passed away on Monday, July 8, 2024, at Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson. Schools address cell phone issues

Cell phones are seemingly everywhere these days, including in the hands of students from high school all the way down to elementary school. Educators say that’s a problem — serious enough to get the Minnesota Legislature to pass a law earlier this year requiring school districts to adopt rules regarding students’ possession and use of the devices while in school by March 2025.
