Louis Bedard, an autism spectrum disorder teacher at Park Elementary in Hutchinson, was named KS95 Teacher of the Week in March. He, as well as other honorees, were feted at the KS95 Teacher of the Week Dinner May 16 at the Radisson Blu at the Mall of America. In honor of his recognition, Bedard received a plaque, as well as one to display at Park Elementary.
Minnesota is one of the top five states in the nation for eligible families enrolling in the federal supplemental nutrition program for women, infants, and children, known as WIC, and there are still about 61,000 Minnesota families who could benefit by signing up today.
Hutchinson’s free summer lunch program offers students age 18 or younger a nutritious menu that features breakfast and lunch items. According to Anne Bassett, program coordinator, entrées available in the summer meal plan will be similar to what is served throughout the school year.
Parents, students and teacher gathered in the general music room at Park Elementary last week for a ukelele jam session to the tune of Taylor Swift’s “Shake it Off.” It was the culmination of a seven-week general music enrichment class taught to the school’s fourth- and fifth-graders by Kari Wendroth and Emily Marino. The class was made possible when Wendroth applied for a ISD 423 Foun- dation grant to purchase 17 ukuleles, music books and teaching materials for the class.
Rain and clouds parted to warm sunshine Monday morning at the McLeod County Veterans Memorial Park as the 2024 Memorial Day program began. Commander Clint Knorr of DAV Chapter 37 opened the program by thanking the attendees, especially the children.
Linda M. Kurtz, 70, of Hutchinson passed away on Sunday, May 26, 2024, at Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson. Wilma (Grenke) Schmidt, beloved wife of the late John Schmidt, of Glencoe passed away on May 23, 2024, at the age of 100. A devoted mother and grandmother, Wilma was surrounded by her loving family in her final moments. Memorial Service will be Thursday, May 30, 2024, 11 a.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Glencoe with interment in Glencoe City Cemetery. Gathering of family and friends will be from 9 - 11 a.m. (two hours prior), ALL at church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Good Shepherd Lutheran Ladies Guild.
