She was the daughter of Willis and Mildred (Paul) Blake. Sandy was baptized as an infant and later confirmed in her faith as a youth in 1976 at Faith Lutheran Church in Hutchinson. She received her education in Hutchinson and was a graduate of Hutchinson High School, class of 1979. The summer of 1978, the love of her life, Gordy, introduced himself to Sandy in the unique way only he could, by yelling out “wahoo”. She was unable to resist his charm. On June 16, 1979, Sandy was united in marriage to Gordon “Gordy” Curtiss at Faith Lutheran Church in Hutchinson. This marriage was blessed with three children, Daniel, Cynthia, and Anthony. Sandy and Gordy resided in Hutchinson. They shared 36 years of marriage prior to the passing of Gordy on August 22, 2015. Over the course of her lifetime, Sandy worked at numerous places, including Hutchinson Technologies Inc. “HTI” in Hutchinson, 3M in Hutchinson, Starkey’s in Glencoe, Crest Electronics in Dassel, and Burns Manor in Hutchinson. Most recently, she was employed by Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson. Sandy enjoyed visiting with her coworkers and residents. She made many lifetime friends with her coworkers. Sandy was a lifetime member of Faith Lutheran Church in Hutchinson. Sandy enjoyed cruising around town with her grandchildren, playing cards and board games – Rook and cribbage being her favorites, visiting casinos, shopping, Bible study, and scavenger hunting. She was very vocal about her fears and dislikes (snakes, bridges, and heights). Sandy’s most significant moments were spent with her husband, children (their significant others), grandchildren, family and friends. Sandy enjoyed traveling and visiting with family and friends. Her most memorable trips included a trip to Georgia with the infamous “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” RV with her family, sister Joy and her boys. This trip was extra enjoyable for her with numerous flat tires (six), one blown radiator hose, Gordy picking up numerous hitchhikers, then seeing a sign a few miles later stating “Do Not Pick Up Hitchhikers As They Could Be Escaped Convicts”, and following a series of tornadoes were just a touch of the highlights. Another memorable trip included traveling to Florida with her kids and grandchildren visiting Disney World. She was finally able to meet Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Eeyore, and Piglet; her favorite Disney characters. Sandy visited Mississippi with her siter, Joy, and shared the holiday with Airmen who weren’t able to spend it with their families. Unfortunately, Sandy wasn’t able to meet the cast of Duck Dynasty which was one of her favorite shows at the time, as they were out hunting. Sandy’s last trip was in October of 2024. Gordy had promised to take her but sadly passed away before he was able to fulfill that promise. Daniel and his family were honored to share this experience with her and grateful they will forever be able to cherish these memories. Sandy passed away on February 10, 2025, at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park on her 65th birthday. Blessed be her memory.
