David A. Strack, 56, of St. Joseph passed away at home on February 19, 2025. A Celebration of Life will be held on May 3, 2025, at Courtyard by Marriott, 185 Radio Drive, Woodbury, MN 55125, 12:30 – 4 p.m.
David was born on December 22, 1968, in Hutchinson to Ronald and Carmen (Britton) Strack. He graduated from Hutchinson High School in June 1987 and then earned a diploma in Service Electronics from Willmar Technical Institute in May 1989.
David then moved back to Hutchinson and started working with MediaCom Cable TV and Communications as a maintenance tech specializing in coaxial cable and installation services. In 2000, he moved to the St. Cloud area to work for Astound Cable Services as a maint/mainline power technician. With Astound, David focused his energy on power supply status monitoring. His work and dedication to this project allowed Astound to stabilize and economize their back up power supply and quickly pinpoint trouble areas so their customers could have services restored quickly. In 2003 David realized a life dream and purchased his first home in St. Joseph.
In 2005, Charter Communications purchased Astound and this allowed David to transition into new territory from a maint/tech into the construction coordinator position. In this position, he worked with new and old Charter customers, especially small business customers who wanted to expand Charter services. He worked up construction costs, coordinated with contractors, pulled permits and made sure the cost analysis for any project under his control was correct and detailed. This position was very comprehensive and detailed with many projects being coordinated at the same time and in different stages of development.
Lastly, David transitioned from Charter Communications and went to work for MidContinent Communications (MIDCO) taking on the position of central construction coordinator. In this position, David was responsible for coordination and construction of fiber optic line placement for new and existing customers. This position required mostly outdoor work in all types of weather. He worked with contractors, coordinated supply drops for new build areas, created and pulled permits and processed a thousand details daily to bring fiber optic services to various areas of Central Minnesota and parts of Wisconsin. David was an expert in his field and was constantly learning new techniques and information to maintain his expert status. Overall, David had an amazing 35 year career in coaxial/ fiber optic communication, application and construction.
David was kind and well liked by friends and family. He cared very deeply for his family and loved the moments he was able to spend with them. He enjoyed being around animals, especially cats and was known as the “The Cat Whisperer.” He always enjoyed his brother Larry’s cats when he would visit. Back at his own home, David also enjoyed feeding and watching his wild birds and squirrels. He got a kick watching their antics! He loved computers and anything else with electronics and science fiction movies, like Star Wars and Star Trek. He rode his motorcycle and took leisurely quick trips down to Hutchinson or around the surrounding area on nice days. David was a good cook and enjoyed preparing meals, grilling out and overall good food and company. He collected video games, baseball hats, movies on DVD and had an extensive collection of computers and music CDs.
