Helen S. Fischer, 87, of Glencoe passed away peacefully on Monday, April 14, 2025, at Grand Meadows Senior Living in Glencoe. Funeral Service was held Saturday, April 19, 2025, 11 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Helen Township with interment following in the church cemetery. Visitation was held Saturday, April 19, 2025, from 9 – 11 a.m., two hours prior to the service, ALL at the church.

Helen Sophie Anna (Grewe) Fischer was born on March 19, 1938, in Green Isle Township. She was the daughter of Edwin and Grace (Lange) Grewe. Helen was baptized as an infant at home by Pastor A. Julius Dysterheft and later confirmed in her faith as a youth on May 11, 1952, by Pastor Karl J. Plocher at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Helen Township. Her confirmation verse was Psalm 119:105: “Thy word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Helen received her early education at St. John’s Lutheran Church School in Helen Township through the 8th Grade. She received her high school education at Stevens’ Seminary – Glencoe High School and graduated with the class of 1956.
On June 16, 1960, Helen was united in marriage to Fred Fischer by Pastor Karl J. Plocher at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Helen Township. Together, they made their home on a farm south of Glencoe. Helen and Fred were blessed with three daughters: Susan, Cindy, and Judith. The couple shared over 28 years together when Fred passed away on March 18, 1989.
Helen was a loving wife and mother. She assisted Fred with farm duties and lovingly cared for her three daughters. Helen was employed at Glencoe Foods for two years, Telex Communications for over 27 years, and later employed at the Chronicle/Advertiser for 10 years. Helen was a faithful and active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Helen Township. When she was young, Helen was a part of Young People’s Society there and later she taught Sunday school for many years. She was also a member of Altar Guild, Ladies’ Aide, and the weekly Bible study.
Helen was a thoughtful and caring person who didn’t think twice when friends or family needed a ride to church, appointments, or anywhere they needed to go. Helen enjoyed going fishing with Fred over the years. She loved tending to her flower gardens, doing embroidery, and quilting. She enjoyed reading a good book, working on crossword puzzles, and playing cards. She had a knack for cooking and baking delicious treats. Helen truly cherished time spent with family and with friends. And her grandchildren and great-grandchildren played a very special part in her life.

Helen is survived by her children, Cindy Hoese and her husband David of Glencoe, Judith Hecksel and her husband Alan of Glencoe; grandchildren, Jeremy Hoese of Chaska, Maemie McNeill and her husband Paul of Chaska, Erica Smith and her husband Austin of Lester Prairie; great-grandchildren, Haes McNeill, Olive McNeill, Laudie McNeill, Tatum Smith; sister, Kathleen Uecker and her husband Reggie of Brownton; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Fischer; daughter, Susan Fischer; father and mother, Edwin and Grace Grewe; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Tony and Cordelia Fischer; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, John Fischer and his wife LaVern, Frieda Hennessey, Gladys Olson, David Fischer and his wife Margie, Jean Best; many other relatives and friends.
