This photo of downtown Plato was taken before the main business block burned in 1896. Businesses moved to temporary sites until new buildings could be constructed. The new business block was made of brick. Many businesses were ready to open again by the end of December 1896. The first four street lamps in Plato were purchased in 1895, one of which is easily seen on the near corner.MCLEOD COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY
