KEVIN VERNON LANGLINAIS

Kevin Vernon Langlinais, 57, passed away August 31st, 2025. He was born on May 1st, 1968, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Harold and Mary Lou.
Kevin attended St. Anthony Elementary School and graduated from Lincoln High School in Des Moines in 1986. Following graduation, he pursued his passion for music and sound by enrolling in the audio engineering program at Ridgewater College in Hutchinson, Minnesota.
While in college, Kevin met Michelle. They were married on November 16th, 1996. Together they created a life and a business. Then in 2006, Nate, just a toddler, walked right into that life, climbed into his daddy’s lap and the Langlinais Family was completed. It’s fitting the very last words Kevin spoke were to Nate – “I love you son, and I am very proud of you.”
Next to his family, Kevin’s passion was music. While in college, Kevin was the lead singer in the band Caution. He had a full head of hair, black acid washed jeans and found out that some rock stars can be humbled by stage diving. After graduating from the audio engineering program, Kevin worked at Son Sound Studios in St. Cloud, MN and had a stint at Paisley Park in Chanhassen, MN. He also studied comedy improv with Stevie Ray in Minneapolis, MN.
Kevin and Michelle created Oasis Entertainment and for years offered karaoke and DJ services in and around Hutchinson. The Oasis sound systems were the best and Kevin would be sure to tell you that. That could be debated. One thing, that could not be, is he was the best at what he did. When he hosted a show, anyone who stepped on stage became the most important person in the world. He created a lot of stars, 3 minutes at a time.
Owning and operating Oasis Entertainment would always stand out to Kevin as his favorite job… because it really wasn’t a job to him. Once the family moved to Iowa, Kevin landed at Hy-Vee, working in security and surveillance. He was very fond of many of his co-workers there and was sad when his health would not allow him to work any longer.
As Kevin’s health declined, much of his time was spent in hospitals or at appointments. Most of his care took place in Des Moines. There isn’t a hospital in the city he wasn’t in at some point or another. He was also seen by doctors in Iowa City, and most recently, he had been placed in a program for a heart and kidney transplant at Nebraska Medicine. He was a stellar patient. Caregivers wished all were like him. When they knew Kevin was at the hospital, they’d come from different departments to just say hi and give him a hug. He’d crack jokes, remember all his nurses’ names and even thank them when they were poking him with needles.
Kevin and Michelle learned to live with his illness and tried their best to create memories that fit within the limitations. Plays, concerts and events in smaller venues all became standard entries on their schedules. Significantly, Kev sat in the audience for Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, DEVO, Kurt Elling and John Cleese – all favorites. Nights and weekends would bring on feisty games of Skip Bo between him and Michelle, watching documentaries, time sitting on the porch, indulgent naps, playing old school video games, and championing Nate, as he ventured into his own independence.
Kevin was many things to many people. His favorite roles were Father, Husband, Son, Batman, Karaoke Guy and Friend. His friends were family, and he loved you all.
Kevin was preceded in death by his father, Harold, and his mother, Mary Lou. He is survived by his wife, Michelle, their son Nathaniel and his partner, Evelyn, and his brother Curt.
A service to honor Kevin’s life will be held on Friday, September 12th, at 1:00 pm at Iles Westover Funeral Home located at 6337 Hickman Rd, Des Moines, IA 50322. Online condolences may be left at www.ilescares.com
