Gerard Stifter of Winsted passed away on September 14, 2025 at home. He was born in Hutchinson on October 14, 1941, the son of Eugene and Angela (Fasching) Stifter. He attended Holy Trinity School in Winsted and graduated from high school in 1959. On August 19, 1961, he was married to Rosemary Bisping at Church of the Holy Trinity, Winsted. Four sons and one daughter were born to this union.
 Gerard and Rosemary farmed his father’s family farm for a number of years. He later went to college and graduated from St. Cloud State University, St. Cloud, in 1976. Following graduation, he was employed as an accountant and became a certified public accountant in 1978. He was admitted to the partnership in McGladrey & Pullen and continued there until his retirement in 1998. In 2002, he and Rosemary started an accounting and tax firm in Winsted and Gerard finally retired in 2017.
 He was involved in many businesses and not-for-profit organizations. While farming, he was a member and president of Winsted Farmers Cooperative. Later, his activities included volunteer board positions at McLeod County Historical Society and numerous other organizations. He was also active as a senior driving instructor for AARP for a number of years.
 He is survived by his children John (special friend Susan Ratai), Michael, Thomas (special friend Gloria Hertel), Barbara Tovsen (Bob), and Eugene (Sue). Also surviving are grandchildren Kayla (Josh) Kern, Christopher (Melanie) Stifter, Brandon (Rochelle) Stifter, Ashley (Torry) Anderson, Adam Stifter, Andrew and Alyssa Tovsen, and Lexi Stifter. Great-grandchildren include Finley, Rowan and Lennox Kern, Jack Stifter, Levi and Lucas Stifter, Tyree Anderson. He is also survived by a sister Gladys Hintz of Franklin, Wis.
 He was preceded in death by his wife Rosemary in 2013, his parents, six sisters, Eileen Otto, Sister Corina Stifter, SSSF, Gertrude Wellenstein, Marie Gockowski, Thecla Ambrose and Lucetta Klos, a brother Eugene, an infant sister Margaret and an infant brother.
 A Mass of Christian Burial for Gerard Stifter will be held on Saturday, September 20th at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted.
 Interment will follow at Holy Trinity Cemetery in Winsted.
 A visitation will be held on Friday, September 19 from 4 – 8 p.m. at The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted. A Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. and a Prayer Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Further visitation will be held on Saturday morning, September 20 at the funeral home from 9 – 10:30 a.m.
