Marian C. Skaar, 88, of Hutchinson passed away on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at Park Nicollet Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park. Funeral Service was Wednesday, October 9, 2024, 11 a.m., at Faith Lutheran Church in Hutchinson with interment in Oakland Cemetery in Hutchinson.

Marian Clara Skaar was born on November 22, 1935, in Morris. She was the daughter of Arthur and Lenora (Gulbrandson) Graff. Marian was baptized as an infant and later confirmed in her faith as a youth, both at Kongsvinger Lutheran Church in Donnelly. She started school at age 5 in a one room schoolhouse 2 ½ miles from their home. There were eight grades. She received her high school education in Morris and was a graduate of the Morris High School, class of 1953. Marian furthered her education at Augsburg University in Minneapolis.
On August 20, 1955, Marian was united in marriage to David Skaar at Kongsvinger Lutheran Church in Donnelly. This marriage was blessed with five children, Rebecca, Pamela, Robin, Michele, and Michael. Throughout their marriage Marian and David resided in Blanchardville, Wis., Buffalo Lake, and later moved to Hutchinson. They shared 69 years of marriage.
Marian was a loving wife, mother, and homemaker to her family. She was a legal secretary in Blanchardville, office secretary for Buffalo Lake Farmers Elevator, and ran the photography studio out of their home for many years. Marian was also employed at Hallmark in Hutchinson. She retired in 1992. Marian was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Hutchinson. She was also a member of Faith Lutheran Church Choir and Women’s Group, enjoyed attending Spit ‘n Shine, Bible study, serving funerals and quilting at the church.
Marian also enjoyed cooking, knitting, golfing, puzzles and traveling. Over 300 prayer shawls have been knit and given to those who are ill and in need of comfort. She loved to play bridge and entertaining. Marian cherished spending time with her family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends.

Marian is survived by her husband David Skaar of Hutchinson; children, Rebecca Grabow and her husband Tim of Madison Lake, Pamela Skaar Meier of Chaska, Robin Skaar and his wife Susan of Dakota Dunes, S.D., Michele Melius and her husband Tom of Mayer, Michael Skaar and his wife Julianne of Farmington; grandchildren, John (Andrea) Grabow, Jennifer Johnson (Dave Gonsior), Rachel Meier, Mark Meier, Ryan (Hannah) Skaar, Christina (Tregg) Fay, Taylor (Tyler) Melius-Polzin, Jackson (Ashley) Melius, Mikaela Skaar, Abigail (Igor) Kovalchuk, Jaden (Cathryn) Skaar and Jordan Skaar; great-grandchildren, Kenley, Cole and Miles Grabow, Bex Johnson, Aria and Grayson Fay, Lorelai Skaar, Cade Melius-Polzin, and Ari J Skaar: sister, Lavonne Hansen of Darwin; sisters-in-law, Sylvia Graff of Deer River and Marilyn Graff of Eagan; many other relatives and friends.
Marian is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Lenora Graff; granddaughter, Gretchen Meier; brother, Arnold Graff and Wallace Graff; sister, LeVerne Graff; brother-in-law, Ben Hansen; Niece, Sherry Hanson.
