Blues score 43 runs in two games
The Litchfield Blues are suddenly posting scores akin to a football team, not the baseball squad they are. The Blues have scored 43 runs in their last two games, including a 16-3 win over Maple Plain in a North Star League game Sunday at Maple Plain.

Sheriff: Man stabbed, hit by vehicle Meeker County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an incident involving a man found on the roadside Friday afternoon on 600th Avenue near 230th Street. Galen Serbus, 50, of Olivia was transported to Meeker Memorial Hospital, then airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center with serious injuries.
School Board approves budget
Litchfield School Board approved the district’s 2024-2025 preliminary budget during a meeting June 26. District Business Manager Jesse Johnson presented a budget that projects expenses of about $23.75 million and revenues of $23.72 million.

U of M group seeks broader understanding of substance abuse
Having watched family members struggle with substance use disorders, recent University of Minnesota Twin Cities graduate Madelyn Blake wanted to change the way addiction is treated and discussed. Now, with three degrees and two national awards, Blake hopes her nonprofit, Brains for Change, will transform addiction education across Minnesota.
Saving a piece of McLeod County history
A few years back, while filming my monthly episode of “History Quest,” the crew and I came upon an old “abandoned” cemetery over by Biscay. It was the Getchell Cemetery, and it was so overgrown with briars, brambles and trees that it scarcely looked like a cemetery.
