One of my favorite memories of Hutchinson has to be the year I moved here. My family and I up and moved the middle of my seventh-grade year to be closer to my dad’s place of work.
The 81st annual Hutchinson Jaycee Water Carnival is ready to roll with activities slated to begin Monday, June 10, with Music in the Park, and continue through the fireworks at dusk Sunday, June 16. Leading the week-long festival is Commodore Brittany Schiller.

The first memory is working the craft fair with my parents (Jeremy and Leah Watzke). I will always remember walking around the fair with my mom and loving how everything was so creative and beautiful! My second memory is attending all of the Water Carnival events over the years.
As the summer begins to get into full swing, warmer and more humid days are on the horizon, say climate and weather scientists. Temperatures across Minnesota this summer have a 30% to 40% chance of being higher than normal, according to a seasonal outlook issued by the National Weather Service earlier this month.
125 YEARS AGO: 1899 Great care has been taken and no expense spared to make this year’s fireworks display the best ever shown here. Handsome lithographs are up announcing the big celebration and races July 4-5 at Hutchinson.
A four-year process will soon culminate in the Winsted Arts Council’s installation of its first public mural. Artists Emily Victory of Watertown and Niko Alexander, formerly of Winsted, designed and painted the mural with suggestions and guidance from the art council’s mural subcommittee. The design incorporates an aerial view of the town circa the late 1800s. Greater Minnesota Sign and Graphics will hang the 10-foot by 20-foot mural on the south side of the Corner Bar building June 11. The arts council sees the mural as serving as a cultural centerpiece for downtown Winsted and as a gateway to its lake park.
