The tradition of planting trees in honor of retiring staff continues at Hutchinson Middle School. This year’s tree was planted in honor of Dawn Altermatt’s retirement. Altermatt taught physical education. She began teaching at the middle school in 1994.
Living off the land wasn’t easy, and few people knew this better than the first settlers of McLeod County. In the 1850s, when settlers first started coming here, the area was desolate and the brave souls who resided here lived a subsistence lifestyle.
In the last several years fear of the things going on in the world has been ever increasing at an astronomical rate. Coming from everywhere, it affects everyone, believer and unbeliever alike. So as people of faith how are we to deal with fear? Let’s turn to God’s word for our answers.

One of my favorite memories of Hutchison is when I was playing 10U Hutchinson fastpitch softball in the Water Carnival tournament. Our team won first place, and the medals were misspelled and spelled “frist.” That same weekend I played up at the 12U Hutchinson fastpitch softball Water Carnival tournament.

I don’t have any specific memory that really sticks out in my head, except for the year I was Junior Queen. I have lived in this town my entire life and have had so many great times during my years growing up.
