In ancient times, kings and noblemen built castles to protect themselves and their possessions from enemies. The enemy, however, devised unique ways of penetrating the defenses. They used catapults for launching rocks against or over the walls. Battering rams were used to break through the gates. Scaffolding was placed against castle walls so the enemy could breach them.

On a chilly February day back in 2023, my wife and I were getting ready to head up north, to Sax-Zim bog. We’d reserved a house in Hibbing, from where we’d be making daily trips that weekend. As my wife worked on packing the food, I was busy packing everything else. Since it was hot in the house, I took off my jacket and set it aside. But after packing our belongings, we were off to our weekend adventure!
