On Nov. 5, I am asking the residents of Hutchinson to re-elect me to the Hutchinson City Council.

• All letters endorsing a candidate or opposing a candidate, letters about candidates, and letters that urge people to vote for a particular candidate or a certain way on a ballot question, will be published as a Paid Election Letter. A charge of $30 will be required for all Paid Election Letters and must be paid prior to publication of the letter.

Congress went back into session after its summer recess on Sept. 9 with a full plate of competing demands. With the fall elections less than two months away, members want to walk away with some accomplishments — but not spend much time achieving them. Or as Roll Call put it, they want “to get out of Washington as quickly as possible while doing just enough to avoid a government shutdown.”

Today’s political turbulence is a stark reminder that this nation has successfully endured the shenanigans of those occupying political office and those vying for that privilege. In that regard, Watergate comes to mind, because it was 50 years ago, on Aug.
This November, I am asking for your vote for re-election to the Hutchinson School Board. As a lifelong resident of Hutchinson, I take pride in calling this my home. My wife, Angela, a graduate of Hutchinson High School, is an active employee in our school district, and our children, Riley and Mico, are both students here. Education in Hutchinson and the overall success of our district is not just something I am passionate about; it is something that directly impacts my family.

We’ve just passed Labor Day and what is traditionally considered the heart of election season. It’s the moment, according to political lore, when most Americans start paying attention to electoral contests. This may or may not be true, but here’s one thing I think we can count on: This is when politicians seeking office are most eager to understand the mood and concerns of the electorate.

The big battles and widespread attacks on settlers that defined the early part of the war were no more. The big war parties had fled to either Canada or the Dakota Territory, and their leader, Little Crow, was killed.
The countdown is getting closer and closer to zero as families and their children have no doubt started looking at the calendar and the first days of school. However, for many schools the first day of school will be preceded by the first athletic competition.
