Ever wonder how long it would take to drive about 30 mph from the Canadian border to New Orleans? The answer is about 30 days and it’s happening during October when the Military Vehicle Preservation Association, in cooperation with the Jefferson Highway Association, convoys the Jefferson Highway, a 2,500-mile stretch of road that dates to the 1920s. More than 30 privately owned vehicles are expected to participate.
20 YEARS AGO: NEWS FROM THE ISSUE OF SEPT. 30, 2024 A Lakeville man was injured Sunday when a gun accidentally discharged while he and his son were hunting near Dassel. According to the Meeker County Sheriff’s Office, whose deputies responded, Stephen Hamrick, 48, was accidentally shot in the right leg with a 20-gauge shotgun held by his 12-year-old son.

Congress went back into session after its summer recess on Sept. 9 with a full plate of competing demands. With the fall elections less than two months away, members want to walk away with some accomplishments — but not spend much time achieving them. Or as Roll Call put it, they want “to get out of Washington as quickly as possible while doing just enough to avoid a government shutdown.”

These last two years as the children’s librarian of the Litchfield Public Library have been full of joy, music, laughter and so many smiles. I’ve been so fortunate to get to know wonderful families in this community and to provide them with opportunities for their kids to have fun.

With the football season underway, it seems like a great time to take a look at the history of Litchfield High School football. In 1897, Litchfield schools hired a new superintendent, Rupert Dewey.

Victory helps Dragons equal win total of last season With nearly a month to go in the regular season, Litchfield has already equaled its win total of a season ago. And the Dragons did so in dramatic fashion, rallying from two sets down to earn a 3-2 win Sept.
Litchfield continues to make a splash in the pool, even if it isn’t showing up on the scoreboard. The Dragons lost to Delano 93-63 in a dual meet Sept.

Boys, girls both earn runner-up at Glencoe meet Strong individual performances propelled Litchfield’s cross country teams to runner-up finishes at the Caty Delwiche Invitational Sept. 19 at Glencoe.

Highway 12 rivalry resumes Friday at D-C Another solid defensive performance, another win. And suddenly, Litchfield has reached one of its most anticipated tests of the season.
